Travel - How to get to Würzburg

By car

Würzburg is directly connected to the German Autobahn-System:

·     A3 / A9 Köln-Würzburg-Nürnberg-München (Munich)

·     A7 Hannover-Würzburg-Ulm

·     A81 Stuttgart-Heilbronn-Würzburg

Please note that you will not need a car within the old town of Würzburg where most destinations are within walking distance. Parking space within the narrow streets of the old town will be at a premium. Maritim Hotel offers a parking garage at extra costs.

By airplane

We recommend flying into Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) which offers nonstop connections to many destinations in the world.

Directly within FRA Airport, you will find a special train station for long-distance and high-speed trains that is known as the Flughafen Fernbahnhof (Fernbf). There will be hourly and sometimes half-hourly ICE (Inter City Express) trains that connect you with Würzburg Hbf (main station) in about 1.5 h. Tickets can be obtained at the station or through the following link of Deutsche Bahn Service:

https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml

[in case the link is not working, please use the German site and change language in top row]

Please note that most of these trains are direct connections (with 0 changes, or “Umst.” in German). But on some connections, you will need to switch trains once (1 change) at the Frankfurt Hbf downtown station. We recommend taking a direct ICE train from Fernbf to Würzburg Hbf.

We do not recommend flying into Frankfurt Hahn Airport which is located 1.5 h west of Frankfurt.

You can also fly into Munich Airport (MUC) and take an ICE train from the München Hbf downtown station, which will take about 2 h to Würzburg Hbf. In this case, you will have to transfer from the airport to the main station by S-Bahn or other transportation.

By train

Würzburg Hbf is one of the best connected train stations in Germany. More than 70 long-distance trains (ICE or IC) and over 350 regional express trains (RE) are available each day. For tickets, see the link above.

Once you arrive at Würzburg Hbf, we recommend taking a cab (< 10 Euro) to the Maritim Hotel (distance, 1 km). Alternatively, walking distance is about 15 min.
